Isn’t it disappointing when acts you love release songs that you just don’t connect with? Today we have new music from 2 acts that just don’t live up to expectations.

1. Alexander Rybak captured the attention of the entire world last month with his overwhelming victory at Eurovision 2009 and has finally released his debut album – Faiytales. I just listened to the entire album very briefly and was pretty dissapointed. I was left with one thought – YAWN. The songs are good but they’re not the kinds of songs I’d ever want to sit down and specifically play. Most of the tracks are extremely slow and “folky,” Now before you all send me hate mail the album isn’t crap, I just don’t feel like it lives up to the expectations I had for it. Alexander is clearly talented, the songs are written really nice and there are a lot of beautiful songs on the album. But the word ‘fun’ could never be used to describe the album.
The best song on the album, besides Fairytale of coarse, would have to be a cover of The Proclaimers – 500 Miles. Alexander puts his own spin on this classic and I’ll be playing this for awhile.

2. I think I may finally give up on Magnus Carlsson forever! I used to be a huge fan of Magnus and my love for him peaked back at ‘Live Forever – The Album.’ Since then I’ve been consistently dissapointed by him. First of all the new tracks on his Greatest Hits album last year were mediocre, but that wasn’t the worst of it. In March I was lucky enough to see him live in Sweden! He performed a small set at a club in Stockholm over Melodifestivalen weekend. I don’t know how to explain it but I really didn’t like him at all. It was something about his attitude while singing, the songs he chose to sing and the entire way he carried himself during the performance. It was really disturbing actually! I had been so excited to get a chance to see what I thought was one of my favorite acts and I left with my image of him completely shattered!
Maybe I’m being a bit dramatic but Magnus has just released his new single – This Is Disco and once again I’m feeling disappointed. I like that the entire song is made of of references to classic disco tunes and the song is definitely a grower… I’ve just played it for the third time and I do like it a lot more. I just feel like we’ve heard this glam disco stuff before from him. It’s the same song being recycled over and over again and the track belongs as an album track on his last album rather than the lead single from a new album. It’s time to leave the disco Magnus and give us something new – leave the disco to Alcazar!

*Update – Ok after the 5th play I sorta love the Magnus song now
I suggest listening to it 5 times before you judge it!
